1) I want to buy 9 bags of compost for my vegetable patch in my garden. There are two different garden centres that I can purchase the compost from and they each have a different offer on.
  • Garden centre 1 sells a bag of compost for £4 each and has an offer whereby if you purchase two bags of compost, you get the third bag free.
  • Garden centre 2 normally sells a bag of compost for £3, but at the moment they have an offer where you get 20% off.
 
What garden centre should I purchase the compost from? Clearly show your working.
 
2) I want to purchase 20 bags of crisps. There are two different shops that I can purchase the crisps from and they each have a different offer on.
  • Shop A normally sells each bag of crisps for 80p, but at the moment they have an offer whereby you can get 15% off.
  • Shop B sells bags of crisps for £1 and has an offer whereby if you purchase 3 bags of crisps, you get 2 bags free.
 
What shop should I purchase the bags of crisps from? Clearly show your working.
 
3) I want to purchase 12 disposable BBQs. There are two different shops that I can purchase the BBQs from and they each have a different offer.
  • Shop 1 sells each BBQ for £5 and if you purchase 2 BBQs, you get the next 2 BBQ half price.
  • Shop 2 sells each BBQ for £6 and if you purchase 5 BBQ, you get 40% off any more BBQs (there is no limit on the number of additional BBQs that you can purchase with 40% off).
 
Which shop should I purchase the BBQs from? Clearly show your working.

Part 2
1) The normal price of a bottle of drink is the same at each of the two shops. Each of the two shops has a different offer on.
  • Shop A: purchase 2 bottles and get 1 free
  • Shop B: 25% off a bottle
 
What is the cheapest way of purchasing 7 bottles of drink? You may buy from more than one shop. Cleary show your working.
 
2) The normal price of a cushion from the 2 shops below is the same. Each of the shops has a different offer on.
  • Shop 1: Purchase 3 cushion and get a fourth free
  • Shop 2: 30% off each cushion
 
What is the cheapest way of purchasing 12 cushions? Cleary show your working. You may buy from more than one shop.
 
3) The normal price of a water bottle is the same at the three shops below. Each of the shops has a different offer on.
  • Shop A: purchase 1 bottles and get 2 free
  • Shop B: purchase 2 bottles and get 3 free
  • Shop C: 25% off each bottle
 
What is the cheapest way of purchasing 7 bottles? You may buy from more than one shop. Clearly show your working.
 
4) The normal price of a football is the same at the three shops below. Each shop has a different offer on.
  • Shop 1: purchase 2 and get 3 at half price
  • Shop 2: purchase 1 and 1 at half price
  • Shop 3: 10% off
