**Part 2**

1) I am driving from Northampton to Leeds. The journey can be split into 3 different journey types:

- 20 miles of city driving where I drive at an average speed of 25 mph
- 34 miles of country driving where I drive at an average speed of 51 mph
- 82 miles of motorway driving where I drive at an average speed of 60 mph.

2) Two runners are running a 5 km race. David runs at an average speed 12 km/h and Sophie runs at 3.2 m/s. Who wins the race and by how many second do they win by?

3) I finish work on a Friday at 4:45. The supermarket is 8.8 km away and I travel to it at a speed of 24 km/h. I spend 17 minutes buying some food and drink and then drive home. The drive home is 3.5 km and I drive at a speed of 42 km/h. Do I arrive home by 5:30? Clearly show your working.

4) I am driving from London to Bath. I stop at Newbury to fill up my car with some petrol. It is 65 miles from London to Newbury service station and I travel at an average speed of 50 mph. I then drive for 50 minutes at a speed of 66 mph.

a) How long does it take me to drive from London to Newbury? Give your answer in minutes.

b) How far is it from Newbury to Bath?

c) What is my average speed whilst driving? Give your answer to the nearest mile per hour and ignore the amount of time that I was stopped at the service station.

5) My friend and I are driving from Birmingham to Cardiff. The distance between Birmingham and Cardiff is 126 miles. I am going to drive at an average speed of 54 mph and have no breaks. My friend is going to drive at 63 mph and will take one break. In order for both of us to arrive in Cardiff at the same time, how long can my friend take a break for?

6) I am running a 200 metre race. It takes me 14.6 seconds to run the first 100 metres and I run at an average speed of 6.7 m/s for the second 100 metres.

a) What is my speed for the first 100 metres? Give your answer in m/s to one decimal place.

b) How long did it take to run the second 100 metres? Give your answer to one decimal place.

c) What is my average speed for the whole race? Give your answer in m/s to one decimal place.
