Algebraic Formula: Quiz 1
1) The formula below works out the distance travelled.

            d = s x t

Where d is distance (in metres), s is speed (in metres per second) and t is time (in seconds). What is the distance covered when:
    a) s is 8 m/s and t is 9 seconds
    b) s is 20 m/s and t is 30 seconds
    c) s is 5.5 m/s and t is 12 seconds

2) We can work out the area of a triangle by using the following formula:

             Area of triangle = ½ x base x height

Work out the area of the triangle when:
    a) the base is 3 cm and the height is 6 cm
    b) the base is 8 cm and the height is 10 cm
    c) the base is half the length of the height and the height it 12 cm

3) We have the formula below:

          a = b2 + 7b

Find the value of a when b is 5.

4) We have the formula below.

         c = d3 – 4d2 + 7d – 8

Find the value of c when:
    a) d is 3
    b) d is 5

5) We have the formula below (you may use a calculator for this question).

       p = 4nq + 5n2 – 15nq2 + 7n2q3

Find the value of p when n is 5 and q is 2.
